Iceland: cold land warm people

I was invited to visit Iceland for 5 days by the association Iceland - Palestine to talk about Palestine specially about the forgotten part of the Palestinian people, those who live under the Israeli occupation since 1948 and called by some Israeli Arabs and by others Palestinians citizens of the state of Israel. but who I personally call them Palestinians of occupied Palestine 1948. this is the naked truth, to remind those who forgot or those who pretend to forget, that the Zionist occupation began in 1948 and continued in 1967. this stand of me is rejected by many of my own people who accepted the state of Israel and try now to find a way to normalize his relation with his "state". and to tell you the truth, I was so surprised to find in this cold country so warm people who listened to what I say. some of them told me with innocence and open heart: if invaders occupy our land, deport most of our people and establish a racist state we'll never recognize such a state and we'll do all what we can to liberate our land.
I was so happy to hear such reactions, but in the same time I was so sad, when I remembered our miserable situation at home when many Palestinians lost there faith of their just cause and gave legitimacy to this racist state called Israel.
my surprise didn't stop on this point. the opposite it increased when after the lecture I talked with many people and noticed that almost all of them know much about what's going in the region. they have high awareness to all developments. they see and hear every day the crimes which Israel commit in Gaza and Nablus. many of them think to come and do volunteer work in Palestine. some of them did that. some of them visited Gaza and Elkhalil and when they returned home told their stories.
in the other side I was a little ashamed. I know almost nothing about this country and its people, and I assume that most people like me, and maybe know less than me. we want all the world to support us and have solidarity with our struggle but we are so ignorant and indifferent to the world.
and in spite the big distance and the difference in the weather between Iceland and Palestine I felt much similarity. also the Icelandic people had to struggle for its independence and freedom. the last struggle was against the American military presence on their land. while American military bases grow as mushrooms in the Arab world.
the Icelandic people is warm, generous and have very deep tradition of hospitality, yes, yes, like the Arabs and maybe more.
I'll write more about my trip and experience in Iceland when I have more time
